Award Winning Shows at Brighton Fringe 2021

Every year, the Brighton Fringe Awards celebrate the outstanding performances and events that help make the festival truly special. A whole host of awards celebrate the variety of art forms on show at the Fringe, and each award recognises the respective recipients in a unique way. All companies who win an award also win a free registration to take part in Brighton Fringe the following year.

We’ve picked out some of the top award winners from the past few years of Brighton Fringe.

Clean: The Musical by Different Theatre - Winners of Best New Play at Brighton Fringe 2019.

'Clean: The Musical’ tells the tales of women of laundry hill area, Brighton since 1870. It explores themes of mental health, abuse, sexuality and suffrage, celebrating women’s resilience and sisterhood over 150 years of local history.

Quintessence by Emily Carding / Sweet Productions - Winner of The FringeReview Outstanding Theatre Award

A combination of cataclysmic events results in the extinction of the human race, leaving behind an AI being programmed to recreate humanity when the time is right, with only the complete works of Shakespeare as a guide to the human spirit. Humanity must thrive... but at what cost?

A sci-fi solo show inspired by Mary Shelley's ‘Frankenstein’ to leave you wondering who the real monster is.

David Hoyle by Tim Whitehead Management - Winner of The Brighton Gin Cabaret & Circus Award

The legendary fireball of the cabaret apocalypse, David Hoyle, stares in to the abyss of the unprecedented times we find ourselves in and says ‘there has to be a point to carrying on’... David invites us to find it together. An exploration of ‘La Nouvelle Norme’, the aim of these shows is to give HOPE and STRENGTH to all.

Post drag, post gender and impossible to beat – David is the original performance avalanche, he returns to Brighton Spiegeltent with an all new extravaganza.

Herbies Jazz Breakfast by Herbie Flowers with Beach Without Sand - Winners of Latest Live Music Award

Herbie is all set to lead out the team ably supported by Malcolm Mortimore in the engine room. Meantime the rest of the gang's all here and looking forward to playing for you. Enjoy the superstar talents of the UK's finest Jazz musicians up close and personal, and more than a bit of a chat.

Retrain, Reduce, Recycle by Clap Back Club - Winners of the Audience Choice Award

After a busy year of transferring our skills to cyber, award-winning feminist theatre collective Clap Back Club are ready to put the skill back in unskilled! After centuries of being overworked and underpaid, come and see how we received the government’s opportunity of a lifetime to ... get a new job.

'Retrain, Reduce, Recycle' mixes musical theatre, comedy and cabaret to discuss the impending doom that lockdown has created for the arts industry, and how it’s perpetuated the discrimination of women in the workplace.

Privates: Great Ideas By Geniuses by Bright Bouy Productions - Winner of The Balkan / Otherplace Awards

Award-winning idiots Privates reinvent the wheel, ignoring the past and ruining the future along the way. This show will eureka you out of the bath, drop an apple on your head and invent the chair you’re sitting on. Not sat down? Oh man, you have got to try one of these chairs!

Great Ideas By Geniuses is the greatest invention in human history – because it’s got them all in it.
