Welcome to Brighton Fringe 2021
“I’ve been looking forward to saying these words for so long. Welcome to Brighton Fringe...
The Brighton Fringe Award for Excellence has been running since 2011, and this year is in association with Brighton Open Air Theatre (BOAT).
Now in its fifth year, 2020 will see BOAT host over 140 performances from local, national and international companies. Featuring drama, comedy, circus, cabaret, music, dance and even a Pop Bingo for dogs. Put simply: everything under the sun!
We are delighted to announce that this year's winner of the Brighton Fringe Award for Excellence in Association with BOAT is ‘The Canary and the Crow’ by Middle Child. They will receive a free registration to take part in Brighton Fringe 2020 along with £500 towards production costs and a free reworking/rehearsal space from BOAT.
‘The Canary and the Crow’ is a grime and hip hop-inspired gig theatre piece about the journey of a working class black child who is accepted by a prestigious grammar school.
This lyrical, semi-autobiographical piece from writer and performer Daniel Ward uses original live music from Prez 96 and James Frewer to tell the story of the struggle between a new environment that doesn’t accept you, and an old one that has no opportunity.
